MAUGOUST CHENAIS

On the occasion of this Milanese exhibition, Maugoust Chenais orchestrates a scenographic journey within the Baroque Palazzo Litta, in which each exhibited piece offers an interpretation of duality as a creative tension.

Whether hung on the walls or arranged on the floor, these exhibited pieces - desks, chairs, benches, carpets, and screens - staged by Bruno Rousseaud, avoid any decorative emphasis to reveal their essence. We find the raw materials that Maugoust Chenais loves to work with to extract their extreme sophistication. Linen, wool, horsehair, stone, wood, felt transform, intertwine, sculpt, and confront each other to shape custom pieces with sharp lines and radical aesthetics.

The duo of designers explores equestrian codes with the complicity of Roxane Bernini and Galerie B with two creations where horsehair is magnified in spectacular fringes interwoven with linen or silk. A "cremello" carpet of 4 meters crossed by a very long lanyard custom-made by the saddler of the Chantilly race stables dialogues with a minimalist and intense "Alezan" in wool and silk.

Highlights of this exhibition, two "Prima materia" stools unveiled in a monumental block of Iranian onyx that remained asleep in Verona for almost half a century. Sculpted in a very singular essence and mixed with a very pure Osso travertine, each piece then becomes the guardian of the entire history of the material that composes it, a unique experience for an exceptional piece, inscribed beyond all temporalities. They co-sign a unique piece "stone mirror" inspired by Caravaggio's Narcissus with Frederic Imbert, guest designer.
