The Zest Vessel is the latest piece in a series of bronze vessels which I have cast throughout 2019 and 2020. Each piece is hand-crafted from cast bronze using the lost-wax process in Melbourne, Australia. The bronze is uniquely patinated and polished which will naturally oxidise and develop further over time.
The design stems from the Makrut Lime which first caught my eye growing in the garden at my childhood home. The garden featured this strange fruit tree that appeared complex and peculiar against the native plants.
The Bronze Vessels are generated using a process I have been experimenting with which combines 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies with the “cire perdue” lost-wax casting method. I have had a hands-on experience with bronze casting for many years now working at Perrin Sculpture Foundry which specialises in fine art sculpture. This enables me to immerse myself in every stage of the design and manufacturing. It is very inspiring to be able to see the role new technologies can impact traditional practices in art and design.
