Francesco Maria Messina, born in Pisa, began his artistic journey at the age of 15,
graduating in Paris and honing his skills at the École Spéciale d'Architecture. In
2015, he completed a master's degree at the Confluence Institute in Lyon. His
travels have taken him to places like New Orleans, Cameroon, and Mauritius, where
he discovered his calling for design. In 2018, he co-founded Cypraea, a Mauritian
luxury furniture brand, achieving significant success. Messina's works have been
displayed in major international exhibitions, solidifying his position in the field of
collectible design. In 2020, he returned to Tuscany and established his own design
studio, focusing on the interplay between nature, history, design, and innovative
materials.
Messina’s design collections are artistic odysseys that explore the union between
rare materials and cutting-edge design. Each piece is meticulously crafted in
Tuscany, ensuring exclusivity and preciousness. His philosophy embraces
environmental concerns, as demonstrated by the Glacies series addressing climate
change. The Mineralia collection explores the use of minerals, while Fossilia features
works in petrified wood. Glacies reflects on the fragility of glaciers, while Re-plastic
adopts a 'zero waste' philosophy through the recycling of plastic. The De-
Architectura collection celebrates Italian cities, translating architecture and history
into functional art pieces. Messina's latest creations include a lamp inspired by the
Plinio table.
Messina's work has been showcased at prestigious events such as Milan Design
Week, Venice Design Biennial, Dubai Design Week, and London Collect. He has
also participated in Arte in Nuvola in Rome, Edit Napoli, and Lake Como Design.
Beyond crafting extraordinary objects, Messina engages his art in a call for reflection
and action towards a sustainable future.
