On the occasion of the eleventh edition of 5Vie Design Week, WATERS, an installation by Massimiliano Pipolo curated by SWING Design Gallery, will be presented in the courtyard of Palazzo Litta.

"Ceramic calligraphy" by Massimiliano Pipolo draws from the study and observation of the forms of water, from the fascination for its interaction with light and movement, from the cataloging of those names attributed to describe the multiplicities that nature reproduces and shapes: the vortex, waterfall, drop, trickle, wave. “For four years I have been studying and internalizing these forms, having reproduced them obsessively in ceramic has allowed me to create a sort of tactile and visual memory, which then led me towards the evolution of a material language. From this moment I witnessed the birth of an emotional calligraphy.” WATERS should be read as a writing exercise, a long automatic but intimate writing session, in which the sculptures are modeled in one go, built from what dictates the evolution of the modeling itself.

In the spaces of the courtyard of Palazzo Litta, a body of ceramic works, a large sculpture, vases and a mirror - created exclusively for this edition of 5Vie.

The color shades of the finishes made with pigments dusted by hand in different steps will be new, for the first time the palette will embrace colors ranging from pearly white to chalk white, from the milky gray of water vapor to the gray of autumn mists, ivory reflections warm the two shades and create a chromatic leitmotif.

The 3 ceramic hubs are articulated in an entirely neutral and rough habitat (raw concrete), divided into extremely geometric shapes that support and create a velvety contrast with the organic nature of the ceramic module installations that make up WATERS.

3 FULCURS:

- REFLECTION - reflective sculpture in superior stoneware (pigmented and majolica by hand) and mosaic of metal tiles ranging from chrome to satin (in a color palette ranging from light gold and steel). Its frame is composed of superior hand-molded white stoneware.

Waves, ripples and spirals of the ceramic blend into the design of the metal tiles which sends us reflections of images and shadows of light across its surface.

WATER EYE - wall sculpture in superior white pigmented and hand-majolica stoneware, the watery calligraphy here is made up of approximately 20 units that draw a circumference of 240cm.

SCULPTURES - group of 5/6 sculptures in the same material and finishes as the previous pieces, in this case presented on the horizontal podiums of the installation.

Traditional techniques encounter a double syncretism that oscillates between material and abstraction. Massimiliano Pipolo stages a sophisticated vocabulary whose aesthetics recall that biomorphic plasticity typical of the ceramic production of Lucio Fontana and Leoncillo Leonardi. The organic volumes are transformed into abstract, suspended and ethereal matter, but at the same time sensual and vibrant.
