Celebrating 20 years of DAMN° magazine

In 2004 DAMN° launched its #0 issue at the Interieur Biennale in Kortrijk in Belgium. In 2024 the still independent publication is proud to announce its 20th anniversary with issue #87 – PROVOCATEURS.

For two decades this revered publication has been on the cutting edge of cultural commentary. Throughout these years DAMN° has seamlessly blended the worlds of design, art and architecture with broader political and social discourse, becoming a beacon of critical thinking and innovation.

Our reportage and insights have evolved with the discipline and transcends aesthetics, delving into the profound impact these fields have on us all.

This twenty-year milestone not only highlights our enduring commitment to intellectual rigor, but also underscores the magazine's influence in shaping conversations about the built environment, politics, and society.

To make the occasion we will present TOPSOIL STOOLS – a series of small sitting objects mostly made from materials found in topsoil.

TOPSOIL STOOLS in #Lombardy explores what crafts are still alive and what natural resources are available in remote or forgotten regions. Mapping local makers and designers is an important part of this journey that ends with locally embedded objects rooted in their environment and connected to the soul of the creator and the land.

Every region included in the exhibition has a wealth of natural resources, materials and knowledge.These are all sources of inspiration for starting research or developing projects and objects. Elements of local history, culture, environment, society and economy are brought together. The preservation and revival of local crafts in a contemporary context are central.
