Gilda Contemporary Art presents CONNECTIVE FABRIC, a solo exhibition by Gloria Campriani curated by Cristina Gilda Artese.
The first solo exhibition of Gloria Campriani, exponent of the so-called Fiber art, in the most contemporary modes and evolutions of the genre, and which sees textiles as the main material of expression.
The "connective tissue" alluded to by the artist refers mainly to the concept of society as a "social body," composed of a multitude of individuals in constant mutual connection.
On display is a large work , left free to interact in the gallery space with a fastening to the 4 points on the walls , as if it were a spider web that expands and goes to suggest precisely the constant evolution of contemporary society: it modifies, extends and branches out, developing a single large macro-organism of which each of us, in some way is called upon to take part.
Also present is a work mounted on a special metal structure, which allows Campriani's work to be enjoyed in a double-face mode.
Campriani, who was born and raised in the world of textiles (her family of origin had a textile craft workshop), has over the years made this biographical experience an element of continuity with her own identity as an artist, leading her to prefer precisely threads and fibers as the material with which to develop her works.
So too have her studies in the field of anthropology and her passion for traveling, for visiting "the elsewhere" have in fact been the driving force behind her in-depth studies on the concepts of society and human relations and forms of communication.
Campriani shares the sociological thought that man cannot realize his true nature except by living and confronting the Other. On reflection, the very action of thinking is a journey within oneself in search of the other than oneself. Human beings find and discover their identity only insofar as they belong to a group, be it a family, a community, a team, a staff.
The threads within Campriani's sculptures all contribute together to the achievement of a single goal: the realization of a "plot," exactly as it happens in a community.
Also interesting is the particular technique used to make the works, which does not involve the use of any technical tools except the use of the hands.
The particular Off loom method, without the use of traditional looms but with small, everyday tools, involves knotting by hand. Campriani also often intervenes with water tempera or markers.
The artist also finds in the philosophy of recycling and regeneration of matter the most congenial way to express himself, aware that according to some studies the textile industry seems to be the second largest in the world in terms of environmental pollution rate, and not wishing with his work as an artist to be somehow complicit in this system, but being a promoter of responsible reuse.
