The Cloister

The Cloister has the pleasure to present You and Me and Everyone We Know, an exhibition curated by French designer Sam Baronwithnew works by Bráulio Amado, Catarina Carreiras, Charlotte Juillard, Luis Úrculo, Omi Tahara and Tania Grace Knuckey.The title of the exhibition is a take on Miranda July's film Me and You and Everyone We Know, with a scenario revolving around an intertwined cast of characters. In the same spirit we invited six designers to collaborate with three different companies: Gur, Lavandaria and Lombrello. Out of this dialogue three products will be created: a rug, a silkscreen print and a chair. The exhibition organised on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2022 will showcase the result of these conversations.

BRÁULIO AMADO

Bráulio Amado is a graphic designer and illustrator from Portugal, currently living in New York City. His vibrant, kinetic work has appeared in the New York Times, Businessweek, and WIRED and he collaborated with artists including Beck, Frank Ocean, Róisín Murphy, and Robyn. He also co-runs the NYC multi-purpose art space Sixth Street Haunted House (SSHH).

CATARINA CARREIRAS

Catarina Carreiras graduated in communication design from Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa and started working as an independent designer from early on. Her work encompasses different mediums and contexts, switching smoothly between print and screen based media.Currently shelives and works in Cascais, Portugal. She runs the gallery and design studio This Must Be The Place.

CHARLOTTE JUILLARD

Charlotte Juillard is a young French designer and artistic director. After studying interior architecture at École Camondo in Paris, she joined Fabrica’s design department in Treviso, Italy. In 2014, she decided to set up her own studio, ranging from object design to pattern illustrations. Always seeking for new challenges and experiences, her studio works on a wide range of fields : furniture, textile, fashion, beauty, music…

LUIS ÚRCULO

Luis Úrculo is a Spanish-born artist residing in Mexico City whose works encompass sculpture, drawing, photography, and video.His background in architecture has always been a very deep influence and a starting point in the investigation of his work. He is interested in all that is peripheral to architecture, the processes, developments and approaches that can be manipulated, sampled and translated into other scales, adapting to the composition of the project.

TANIA GRACE KNUCKEY

Tania Grace Knuckey is a textile designer and multi-media artist living and working in Geneva, Switzerland. She graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009 with a Cum Laude BA in Design and from The Royal College of Art London in 2012 with an MA in mixed media textiles. Her artistic practice is playful with an unapologetic bold use of colour, and yet behind this aesthetic, more often than not, is a level of seriousness borne out of steady research.

YUKIHIRO KANEUCHI

Born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1984, Yukihiro Kaneuchi studied Art and Architecture at the Tama Art University in Tokyo (2004 - 2008). He is interested in exploring that something in the air which we cannot see - signs, smells and memories. His work aims to express these elements through product, installation and painting. He was a winner in the Cumulous Kyoto 2008 International Design Competition: Design for Happiness.

GUR

Gur is a collection of handmade rugs created on a handloom. The brand has a strong focus on tradition, allowing to discover the expansionof artistic forms using traditional materials and techniques of the history and culture of Portugal.

LAVANDARIA

Lavandaria is a graphic design and silkscreen workshop based in Lisbon.Their silkscreen process is fully manual as they slowly print the layers of colour one by one. Time allows them to care about all the details gathering both elements together: paper and ink.

LOMBRELLO

Lombrello is an interior design atelier specialised in the hospitality sector. The key product of the Italian brand is an ergonomic and contemporary chair customisable in a wide range of colour combinations, upholsteries, paddings and accessories in order to satisfy any customer’s needs.

SAM BARON

Born in France in 1976, designer Sam Baron earned his undergraduate degree in design from the École des Beaux Arts of Saint Etienne and his post-graduate degree from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Baron was creative director of the design department of Fabrica for ten years. He works as a designer for brands such as Pierre Frey, La Redoute, Vista Alegre and Dior Maison.
