SUSANNE KUTTER was born in Wernigerode in East Germany in 1971. In 1982
she escaped to West Germany together with her family. She studied German
at the University of Münster and sculpture and video under Paul
Isenrath and Guillaume Bijl at the Academy of Fine Arts, which awarded
her the Förderpreis, an award for the most promising young artists. She
also received a grant from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia to
reside at the Cité des Arts in Paris and to spend several months in New
York and in California on an academic exchange study program (DAAD). In
2000 he earned a master's degree with honors from the Academy of Fine
Arts in Münster.
Susanne Kutter works with various media and formats,
including installation, performance, sculpture, photography and video.
Her work often deals with the catastrophic relationship between nature
and culture and the loss of safety and intimacy in everyday life. In
this context, Kutter reflects on the changing role of women in Western
societies over the past decades and the increasing disappearance of the
middle classes, traditionally associated with educational and cultural
values.
