Giopato & Coombes

Giopato & Coombes is a design studio founded in Italy by Cristiana Giopato and Christopher Coombes, an Italian-British architect and designer couple. After working respectively with Patricia Urquiola and George Sowden, in 2006 Cristiana and Christopher opened their own design studio, and in 2014 they decided to follow their independent path, focusing on the lighting sector and launching their first collection. From then and still today their projects find a complete expression, starting from the sketch to the final production.

To Cristiana and Christopher, design means finding the synthesis between heart and mind, the emotion behind conception and the pragmatism of innovation. The study of the behavior of light, of the shapes enhancing its immateriality, and the technology that allows its existence, is the foundation of every project they design. Cristiana and Christopher believe that light in living spaces can awaken your dreams, crystalizing time if only for a moment. They call it the Supernatural Daydream, an experience that begins with our every day and goes beyond boundaries. For them, creativity is aimed at evoking this daydream experience which is unique for everyone, and share it with one light at a time.

Cristiana Giopato (Treviso, 1978)  graduated first from the Politecnico di Milano in Industrial Design in 2002 and then continued her studies with a degree in Architecture in Venice in 2012. After an internship in the office of Makio Hasuike, in 2002 she began working with Patricia Urquiola, until opening the Giopato & Coombes studio with Christopher in 2006.

Christopher Coombes (Bristol (UK),1979) graduated in Industrial Design at Brunel University in London in 2001. After moving to Milan he worked for George Sowden and then for Sebastian Bergne, gaining invaluable experience in Industrial Design, and then opened the Giopato & Coombes studio with Cristiana in 2006.
