Misha Kahn

Kahn’s latest undertaking launching at 5VIE is Abject. Abject is a house and housewares brand born from the studio - bringing this idiosyncratic material language into production.  This first outing - Abject: Inhabit the Poché reveals this bold new vision of domesticity, The inaugural presentation centers on movement, as Abject takes form in Milano. His signature IZK chairs - drawing inspiration from a traditional wooden chair design of an Isayaka in Japan - become both performers and set pieces in an animated spectacle. Visitors step into a space draped in fabric, where the chairs' silhouettes party in constant flux, like a shadow puppet show. As the performance unfolds, the chairs come alive. 

At the heart of it all is a refusal to let objects behave the way we expect them to.  Rather than existing as contrarian objects, they invite you into a parallel world.  This version mirrors the contradictions of human experience - playful yet serious, absurd yet deeply considered, messy yet meticulously made. Ultimately, Kahn is building an entire universe where joy, disorder, and creative audacity reign supreme. All together.
