This Milan Design Week, LI&Co atelier co-founder, the New York and Hong Kong-based interior architect Johnny Li, will unveil CONVIVIUM, an installation of his furniture collection that invites us to gather, play and interact.
The collection, under Li’s furniture brand YILINE will be hosted as part of 5VIE DESIGN WEEK 2025, and draws on the traditional game of Mahjong, bridging tradition and ancient culture with contemporary design sensibilities. At the heart of the immersive installation is CATHERINE, a modern mahjong table designed both to play at and to encourage social interaction; its unusual triangular silhouette invites fluid engagement as it redefines the communal geometry of games while celebrating the traditional rituals of shared space. The table is highly adaptable too: it features a collapsible base frame, and the top can be detached and folded into a triangle for convenient storage.
Around the table stand four TETSU chairs in a true balance of sculptural precision and understated strength, their precise sleek frames and luxuriously comfortable seating upholstered in eco-friendly Kvadrat. The chairs originally debuted at the first L'École Van Cleef & Arpels which Li designed in Hong Kong.
Nearby, the TAY stool and side table, originally part of Li’s design of the AP House Macau for Audemars Piquet, signify adaptability as they blend effortlessly into the spontaneity of modern life.
Completing this refined ensemble, the TYLER rocking chair introduces a playful rhythm and graceful movement in an avant-garde sculptural twist on a furniture classic.
Li’s installation goes beyond mere furniture. Meticulously handcrafted in Italy by Studio F from recovered wood, it explores connection as materiality, motion, and memory are merged in a celebration of the highest quality craftsmanship and contemporaneity.
