We are facing a new era in which art, due to its hybridization with digital, also faces various challenges. Two, in our opinion, are of greatest interest: the first concerns the use of artificial intelligence while the second is related to the immateriality of the work. As far as AI is concerned, the question is whether an AI algorithm can be considered an artist and whether text-to-image programs are able to produce artistic results. Asking whether these programs produce art or not means asking what art is, a question that philosophers and art historians have always pondered, with uncertain outcomes. It becomes interesting on this occasion to be able to ask what importance human consciousness has in the artistic process to those who deal with art and digital art at the highest levels. The other main criticality inherent in digital art is that relating to immateriality. Our perceptual field, or the entity responsible for confirming what is considered "real", is being totally questioned through digital representation while art forms that transcend human perceptions are increasingly being developed.

The conference "Art and digital: traveling between perception and consciousness", embracing the main theme of the Digital Week that invites communication between man and the digital world aimed at relaunching creative and humanistic culture, will focus on the comparison between AI and consciousness in the artistic process and on how the "new digital perception" can be used artistically in order to provide a contribution to the identification and creation of new paradigms for the art world.
