THE LIGHT OF THE VOLCANO:
VOLCANIC PORCELAIN WORKSHOP
Friday March 3, 3 - 6 p.m
Fondazione Officine Saffi is hosting a workshop dedicated to the discovery of volcanic porcelain, the protagonist material of the experimentation that Tellurico Design Studio has been carrying out since 2017. During the workshop, designer Francesco Pace will share with participants his research and help them in the creation of customized ceramic mixtures where light is the formal and substantial protagonist of the creative process. Porcelain, a material prized for its translucence, meets Lava, a silica-based rock formed by volcanic eruptions. The two elements share a similar chemical structure and can be mixed to create a new ceramic impasto that is remarkably white with shiny inclusions. During the workshop, light will guide the definition of the physical, chromatic and aesthetic qualities specific to the materials used. The experiments of the workshop participants will be fired and discussed during the lecture on Sunday, March 5, when the designer will elaborate on the themes and motivations of his research.
Participation in the workshop is free upon registration and open to a maximum of twelve participants. The activity is intended for those who already possess even elementary knowledge of ceramic practice.

THE LIGHT OF THE VOLCANO:
TELLURIC'S EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH
Sunday March 5, 3.30 - 5 p.m
Francesco Pace, founder of Tellurico Design Studio, will share his experience as a designer; recounting some key steps in his experimental practice, including the founding of the studio, an in-depth look at the Telluride project and the motivations behind this research. Particular space will be given to the narrative of his latest project ''Entrance to Hell,'' an audio/video installation, commissioned by Contemporary Cluster, Rome and realized in May 2022 . The site-specific installation interrogates the complexity and variety of scenarios produced by the presence of the Campi Flegrei volcanoes and their influence on contemporary social and housing dimensions.
Participation in the conference is free after registration and open to a maximum of thirty participants. Participants in the workshop on Friday, March 3, are strongly encouraged to register and attend the conference.
