INNER - Lumen, the new interior design project signed by Alberta Florence, will be presented during the 9th Edition of 5VIE Design Week, which will take place from 6 until 12 June 2022, as part of Milano Design Week. A lampshade collection whose name derives from the union of the English word “Inner” and the Latin word for light - “Lumen”, thus inviting people to “turn on” new lights in the one place that, above all, has become our sanctuary in the past two years: our home. Lights who will guide us during these times marked by radical changes, and who will lead us to sharing time with others and rebuilding.

Each lampshade is handmade by the expert Florentine artisans with whom the Alberta Florence atelier collaborates, and the fabric is an authentic Italian cotton, featuring a lush forest full of branches and large leaves, and a leopard with a deep and wise gaze. The background comes in two shades, ochre and green: through an evocative play of lights they conjure up the warm atmosphere of nature, and they liven up spaces and bring life to interiors.

“The idea was born during an evening with friends - recounts Giulia Mondolfi - lit by the soft light of a lampshade which belonged to my grandmother. During the evening we discussed how worried we were of the tragic things happening around us, and at the same time how conscious we were of our being together, which brought contentment and a sense of suspended peace. While we chatted easily, I observed the light that suffused the small living room from a lampshade designed 60 years earlier, when life had a different pace and being together had a deeper meaning because the memory of the war was still very fresh”.

In a world immersed in uncertainty, in a Europe struggling with the post-pandemic economic crisis and an agonizing war with no end in sight, with our project INNER - Lumen we wish to highlight how art, design and creative work in every form are pivotal in giving sense to everyday life, both on an individual and on a collective level. These resources become, more and more every day, the pillars of the economic recovery, and provide a fundamental social glue.
“We are victims of fear and uncertainty - adds the Florence-born designer - but at the same time we find ourselves in the unique position of being able to change our lives without the burden of the old superstructures. Through our words and our actions, we can bring change and food for thought to those around us and to society. Creativity, in all its forms, can only unite us, it is a means through which we can fight hate and exclusion,favoring instead cohesion, which in turn strengthens our humanity and helps us build a better future for the next generations.”
