Thursday, September 24th, at the Artespressione Gallery of Paula Nora Seegy in via della Palla 3 in Milan, opens OUT OF THE NIGHT, exhibition by photographer MATTEO CESCHI curated by Matteo Pacini included in the context of the XV edition of Milano Photofestival entitled Scenarios, horizons, challenges. The changing world.

Out of the night, a title inspired by the famous song by Joe Henderson, will compare a selection of recent shots (all taken between 2019 and February 2020) by the well-known Milanese photojournalist Matteo Ceschi, who has been producing reportages of the main Swiss jazz festivals for years, alongside precious repertory images from the Luciano Bignotti archive, taken by Maurizio Gonnella in the 80s and 90s editions of Estival Jazz Lugano. Gonnella is an institution for the Lugano area, one of the most appreciated photographers and connoisseurs of the territory. The comparison between his backstage shots of yesterday and those of today, portrayed by Matteo Ceschi, testifies the reality of a world that changes in the evolution of the times but that, in keeping all its magic alive, transmits today as yesterday the same vibrant emotions.

The series of black and white shots by Matteo Ceschi was born following the passion for music and finds in Francis Wolff, historical producer and photographer of the Blue Note label, a precise narrative and stylistic reference model. With a direct and unfiltered approach, typical of street photography, Matteo Ceschi's shots tell the story of what happens far from the audience's eyes, documenting evidence and behind the scenes, providing spontaneous portraits of the artists called to populate the stages of the great jazz festivals, in a period when they are particularly missed after the flurry of cancellations that have affected all the musical events in this complex historical moment.
