Ahryun Lee (b.1989, Seoul, South Korea) is a ceramic artist and designer based in Munich, Germany. A graduate of both Fine Arts and Design in Ceramics at the Seoul National University (2011) and Royal College of Art in London (2016), Lee has built a career around pushing the boundaries of her chosen medium.
Her practice draws on her own cross-cultural experiences, finding equal joy in the unexpected and the familiar. Lee’s ceramic work is marked by bold, intricate forms, striking colorways, and surprising textures. She expertly harnesses ceramics’ fertile territory for experimentation and expression, blurring the lines between Art and Design and Craft. Instinctively driven by the senses, in particular tactility, Lee creates vivid, almost life-like objects, sometimes even whole “ceramic universes”—often inspired by personal memories—with organic shapes, contrasting colors, and patterns. Her curious, joyful pieces evoke otherworldly atmospheres, characters,
and narratives, drawing viewers in, and, she hopes, encouraging opportunities for open communication and exchange as a result.
To date, Lee has been honored with multiple awards and exhibited at several esteemed venues, including, but not limited to: Design Miami/, Salon Art and Design (New York), Milan’s Salone del Mobile, Bröhan Museum (DE), Schloss Hollenegg (AT), Collect Art Fair (UK), Beirut Art Fair (LB), and Dubai Design Week (DXB). She has also enjoyed collaborations with the likes of fashion house Céline, for which she partnered with the fabric development department; and with Dolce & Gabbana, as part of the fashion house’s GenD – Generation Designers project, which celebrates emerging voices.
