Allegra Hicks studied Art and Design at the Politecnico di design in Milan and the École de Peinture in Brussels. On moving to New York, Allegra began working for a contemporary art gallery and became the assistant of artist Donald Baechler.
In the 90s, Allegra moved to London and set up a luxury lifestyle brand Allegra Hicks, recognised internationally for its signature patterns and prints. Although her entry into design began with interiors, in designing fabrics and rugs, she soon expanded into fashion. In 1999, Allegra Hicks released its first range of caftans. In subsequent years, the company opened stores in both London and New York.
Allegra now focuses primarily on designs for interiors and upholstery, this includes a range of fabrics and rugs and a home collection. The fabric collection is distributed by Lee Jofa in the US, Turnell & Gigon in the UK and Europe, and Tigger Hall in Australia. Allegra also creates bespoke pieces for private and commercial clients, where she specialises in rugs, embroidered wall hangings and furniture.
Allegra’s latest design collaborations include a range of rugs for The Rug Company, the ‘Lulu Capsule Collection’ for online furniture retailer Made.com, and a jewellery collection with Banneya.
In 2010, Allegra published her latest book ‘An Eye For Design’ with Abrams Publishing. The book has been described as “A visual poem and an internal voyage through a designer’s mind, which will inspire readers to look at fabrics and interiors in new ways.”
Allegra’s style and elegance has drawn attention all over the world and she has been long recognised for her achievements as a designer. Allegra has won both the prestigious US Elle Decor’s Best Wallpaper Award and Elle Decoration UK’s Best Fabric Award.
