Rou Materiaal

brand

ROU Materiaal was born in 2013 from the meeting of Marzia De Lorenzi, architect and Monica Cortesi, manager, both sharing a great passion for art, design and a strong bond with Paris.

ROU Materiaal is born from the desire of Marzia and Monica to explore the world of "doing with your hands" and freeing their unexpressed creativity, experimenting it on various materials for customized projects. Surfaces become a research ground. Research and experiments focus on large linen canvases and wooden planks.

Resins and acrylics are the main medium, to which stucco and cement are added over time. The machined surfaces of ROU Materiaal evoke stones. The link between a material "primitive" world and the search for contemporary forms and textures represent the theme of the poetics of ROU Materiaal.

Rou Materiaal designs and manufactures, in Italy, unique pieces of art-design with an eclectic use.

The sculpture-tables and the wooden sculptures start from the search for woods of centuries-old Italian trees felled because they were sick or dead on their feet; the woods are treated to combine the use of techniques that enhance veins or natural imperfections with others that give a more contemporary texture, such as fire, sands, gilding, resins.

The art fabrics are made with the use of molds and secular techniques reinterpreted in a contemporary key and are part of collections in which each piece is identified with a name. The use of resin on the painted sheets creates suggestions that refer to the techniques used by ROU Materiaal on wood and evoke rough and stony surfaces.

ROU MATERIAAL also works on a project.
