Mark Pavlovits is drawn to the old world artisanal craft to glass, where everything is made by a hand made precision. Each piece Mark produces is hand blown or assembled and fused in his Los Angeles studio.
Born and raised in California by a family of artists. Upon completing degrees at the California College of the Arts and Crafts (2005) and the Gemological Institute of America (2008), he opened his studio in 2011 dedicated to the design and craft of glass.
Extracting
from his experiences with gemology and the natural world of his vast
California surroundings, Mark seeks to push boundaries in glass by
creating contemporary artifacts. Through the pursuits of new forms,
patterns, and textures Mark creates vessels evoking excavated
sensibilities with modern details.
Constant experimentation over
nearly a decade has led him to create an innovative color application in
glass, resulting in a new language for Mark which is very much his
own.
This new technique embraces moon-like craters, cracks, bubbles, folds, and even tears in the surfaces of each piece allowing for serendipitous results. With a passion for small sculptural and functional objects, Mark seeks to create one of a kind works that are made in limited quantities every year.
