Think about the objects in your home. Everything serves a purpose, the sofa to sit, the book to read, the lamp to illuminate. Every item is carefully tailored to meet a specific need. But what about the objects that are missing from the traditional domestic setting?
This is the question we’re exploring this year at the Missing Objects exhibition.
We are a collective of 18 young designers, artists, and architects from around the world who have come together to answer this question by sketching, designing, and crafting objects that challenge the norms of the usual domestic environment.
Working in pairs, each duo has created a design that is unique in its shape, material, and purpose: a foldable chair designed for kissing your lover, a rotating table for meeting strangers, a vitrine to infuse your pillow with familiar scents, or a handle that does everything except open doors. The nine objects we’ve created will inhabit our space at Fuorisalone 2025, offering an experience of a domestic space that is oddly familiar yet unexpectedly strange. Instead of the usual shapes and forms, the room will be filled with undefined and peculiar tools that challenge the way we perceive and interact with our surroundings—a blend of déjà vu and jamais vu.
The concept of “missing” extends beyond the physicality of these objects, encouraging visitors to reflect on the roles these elements play in their lives. By questioning the absence of traditional forms, the exhibition transforms the idea of what is missing into an opportunity to reimagine, repurpose, and rebuild connections with the objects around us. We believe that the true presence of an object is felt most when missing.
