Clemence Seilles | STROMBOLI

Founder & Designer of Stromboli

STROMBOLI’s founder is French-born designer Clemence Seilles. She studied in the Royal College of Art of London with Ron Arad and Martino Gamper as mentors. Surfing between Science Fiction influences and poetical gestures, Clemence produces objects, furniture and scenographies. She collaborated with famous designers such as Hella Jongerius and Andrea Crews and her work was exhibited in Palais de Tokyo, Foam Amsterdam and Frankfurt Kunsthalle.

In her quest to bring together the creative community with innovative processes, Clemence co-founded in 2011 with Jerszy Seymour “The Dirty Art Department”in Amsterdam. Its goal was to challenge traditional teaching in the field of Design, by bringing into evidence collaborative gestures. In 2015, the Dirty Art Department participated in Salone del Mobile with a large exhibition at MACAO, Milan.

Clemence created STROMBOLI as a design studio and brand from Mexico city in 2016. Attracted by the rich craftsmanship she encountered in Mexico, she decided to create a unique structure that would coordinate popular and traditional know-hows around contemporary design objects. Clemence learned about the challenges that craft production faces in today’s world, as it is often overlooked by bigger industries. She foresees designs mixing resources and processes.

In 2020, Clemence returns to Europe, and moves her studio STROMBOLI to Milan, with the ambitious project to create an heterogeneous network of collaborators involved in mastering traditional techniques, and the creation of new materials. STROMBOLI is now engaged in research with innovative industries in the field of recycled and sustainable resources in order to democratize their use in design projects.
