The gallery Antik Arte & Scienza,
specialized in scientific instruments and nautical antiques is proud to
introduce, for the Fuorisalone 2016, the exhibition "Woven Life" by
Catia Di Carlo.
The inauguration will be on Thursday, April 14 at 19.00 h in Via San
Giovanni sul Muro 10, and the exhibition will continue until April 17,
from 10.00 to 19.30.
Photography is the art of collecting images caught by the sight of soul.
Photography is the art telling the story of the artist, Catia Di Carlo, and the double essence of her soul. Her curious soul, enchanted by art and reaching out for creativity, blending into her adventurous soul, the one constantly looking out for new challenges to seize with no hesitation, dauntlessly moving her steps towards new chances.
This project mainly focuses on pictures taken with a Canon G10 ,a camera designed for photography amateurs. They have been shot during a travel to TIBET, which has revealed to be one of the most significant destinations of her travel in Far East.
She decided to print her shots on real leather and create a pixel-like effect, which has been achieved via a totally handmade technique and art of weaving the strips of leather together with one another. By creating a pixel-like effect, the pictures have been fragmented by using black leather strips in between the printed fibers. This allows the human sight to synthesize and compact the picture in its totality just from a distance of at least 4 meters.
Nowadays our flow of communication is lead by images. Our pictures tell about ourselves on all sorts of social media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Pixels are speaking our own voice.
The “pixels on leather” of the artist depict and thoroughly describe the scene of a community which has not been contaminated by our own system. These people carry with themselves the capability of touching the inside with the strength of their smiles, with their silence, with their peaceful serenity.
